HISTORY
The Barn @ Rockton is located on the 10 acre Cannell Farm, 1 mile west of Rockton. The farm was bought by William Cannell for raising beef cattle and growing crops in 1948. The mid century farmhouse for built for his lovely bride, Evelyn, in 1950 after a plow damaged the original farmhouse.
Grandson Leif Cannell and wife Tracy bought the farmstead from his grandparents' estate in 1996 and became hobby farmers while working jobs in the city of Rockford. The farm was a perfect place to raise a family of six children.
Our wedding-event barn-adventure started three years ago when a sweet couple from Chicago found us on Airbnb. We caught their excitement to hold a destination wedding in the country with a farmhouse for the family to gather and a unique place for the brides and bridesmaids to get ready for their wedding.
With guidance from local government, we began to update the pole barn with electric and beams and rafters. We then added special touches like french doors, a white oak dance floor, a pallet bar and chicken-coop photo booth. This soybean/corn farm has evolved from a hobby farm with vegetable garden, chickens, turkeys, rabbits and black angus to the rustic and relaxed event space it is today.
